Lights, camera and... the action of the legendary Autobots and Decepticons waging the most fearsome battle in the history of the Transformers in the wonder of the modern world of Machupicchu and other Peruvian places, promise a cinematographic experience full of excitement and surprises.
The film 'Transformers: The Awakening of the Beasts' will arrive in the country on June 8 and will masterfully present the visual and cultural splendor of Peru. Produced by Paramount Pictures Studios, it had a team of 800 professionals who visited the Peruvian locations in Cusco and San Martín (Tarapoto) to bring the story to life.
The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) supported the production during filming, which occurred within the framework of the reactivation of the tourism industry in the neighboring country.
We invite you to discover some of the most iconic locations where this new movie in the Transformers saga was filmed.
Cusco, the epicenter of the Inca Empire
In the filming, locations in Cusco were used that include the imposing Plaza de Armas. This square is recognized for its architectural beauty and has a two-meter monument that represents an Inca, which will serve as a backdrop for some scenes in the film. In addition to its colonial architecture, the square has beautiful gardens, stone benches, and a central fountain.
Another space that will appear is the Muyucmarca, one of the three towers that were in the upper part of the Sacsayhuamán temple. These turrets served both a defensive and ceremonial function, and their presence in the film adds a visually impressive and historical element. In addition to the fortress itself, the Sacsayhuamán Archaeological Park features other notable sites and structures, such as terraces, plazas, and temples, offering a variety of possibilities for filming.
Scenes will also be found in the jewel of the Peruvian Andes, Machupicchu. The Inca citadel located in a mountainous area surrounded by deep ravines and exuberant vegetation gives it a unique and mysterious atmosphere. Its natural beauty and impressive architecture have led to its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Part of the filming was also done in the salt mines of Maras, located in the town of the same name, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It is one of the great salt extraction centers of pre-Hispanic origin, with more than 5,000 spectacular wells on the side of a mountain, which offers impressive views, which can be seen on the big screen.
The Peruvian jungle in the cinema
In the San Martín region, in the middle of the Tarapoto jungle, different scenes were also filmed. The locations of Alto Shilcayo, Chazuta, Shapaja and the Ahuashiyacu waterfalls stand out.
The Alto Shilcayo Viewpoint, with its impressive panoramic views, is one of the most attractive destinations shown in this new installment of Transformers. In turn, it is an ideal place for enthusiasts of nature walks and bird watching.
Continuing with the Chazuta and Shapaja areas, they are usually visited by tourists due to their exuberant vegetation, rivers and waterfalls. The presence of these locations provides a window into the beauty and biodiversity of the region.
Another fascinating place is the La Unión Waterfalls, located in La Banda de Shilcayo, a district in the province of San Martín. These waterfalls are a popular tourist attraction due to their beauty and the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in their waters.
Finally, there are the Ahuashiyacu Waterfalls, being one of the main tourist attractions of San Martín. The name 'Ahuashiyacu' comes from the Quechua lamista, which means "singing water" or "laughing water". It is the most visited attraction in the Tarapoto destination, it is 40 meters high and has a pool 12 meters in diameter.
