The Cayman Islands are a territory located just an hour's flight from Miami. The destination offers a combination of long warm beaches, culinary offerings, diving, water sports and cultural attractions, satisfying both couples and families alike. The Cayman Islands have a first-class infrastructure, including renowned hotel chains and tourist attractions for all ages.
During our stay in the islands, we stayed at the Marriott Grand Cayman Resort.
This luxury beachfront hotel in Grand Cayman offers restaurants and a beachfront pool. The rooms are warmly decorated and feature a flat-screen TV and panoramic views from the private balcony. All of the newly renovated rooms at the Grand Caiman Marriott Resort feature a relaxing Summer House feel and decor.
Hotel dining options include Veranda at Seven Mile Beach and Anchor & Den in the Great Room, serving international cuisine for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is available in the Den with juice bar and creperie. For a drink poolside, guests can stop by the Vista Bar.
Additionally, guests of the Grand Caiman Marriott Resort can relax with a massage at the full-service Botanika Union Spa located on site. There is also a beautiful courtyard with a turtle lagoon and lovely seating areas. This hotel is 1 km from The Links at Safehaven Golf Course, while Owen Roberts International Airport is approximately 10 minutes' drive away.
Our tour of the Cayman Islands began by visiting the Visual Arts Society, as this destination has a rich artistic tradition.
Visual Arts Society was founded in the late 1970s by a group of creative art enthusiasts who formed an association to support and promote the arts in the Cayman Islands. The Society was registered as a non-profit organization and is now a certified NPO in accordance with the new law established in 2017 by the Cayman Islands Government.
The society, as of 2021, had over 80 paid members who are made up of a group of artists or people who support the arts in the community. Each artist explores a wide range of media and supports art for everyone, at all levels.
We also took a tour of the Pedro St. James stone building. Built in 1780 by an Englishman called William Eden, this property was the largest house on the island at the time, making it a key meeting place for the main inhabitants, and became the seat of the islands' first elected parliament. islands in December 1831, leading to it becoming known as "The Birthplace of Democracy in the Cayman Islands".
On May 3, 1835, the proclamation ending slavery in the British Empire (including the Cayman Islands) was read at the top of the grand house's iconic stone staircase.
We conclude the daytime tour of the islands by visiting Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, an excellent walk where you can enjoy the biodiversity of the destination.
This park has a colorful garden, a lake, which are located next to the natural exhibit that is home to the endangered Grand Cayman blue iguana. The two-acre lake also serves as a habitat and breeding ground for native birds and other rare aquatic birds and animals native to the Caribbean.
Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park includes seven main attractions: the Visitor Centre, the Floral Garden, the Orchid Boardwalk, the Xerophytic Garden, the Heritage Garden, the Woodland Trail and the Children's Garden (under development).
It is located in the North Side district on Frank Sound Road and is situated on 65 acres of land owned by the Government of the Cayman Islands and the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. Both are non-profit statutory bodies that serve to conserve the natural environments in the Cayman Islands for present and future generations.
After this visit, we do an aquatic experience. A few minutes sailing from Grand Cayman you can meet manta rays and fish of different species to swim with them, and enjoy the crystalline coasts of the Caribbean destination.
We also visited Westing Cayman, where we had the opportunity to have an exclusive cabin.
The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa is located on beautiful Seven Mile Beach. This resort features the Hibiscus Spa and a variety of water sports. It also provides cabanas and exotic outdoor pool. A private patio or balcony offers tropical views from most of the bright rooms. Guests at the Westin Grand Cayman can dine by the sea at Beach House or enjoy island flavors. There are five other restaurants and lounges available. Diving lessons are offered at the resort's dive center, as well as snorkeling and jet skis. Owen Roberts International Airport is 13 minutes away.
Finally, we visited Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, an IHG Hotel , the most modern property on the island, which has a rooftop where we could watch the sunset.
