For the third consecutive time, Avianca has received the ISO 14001 certification, an internationally recognized standard that establishes the requirements for an environmental management system, helping organizations minimize their
environmental impact and continuously improve their sustainable practices. This recognition extends to the aeronautical maintenance, ground and administrative bases located in Colombia, Ecuador and El Salvador, valid until 2027.

This achievement is the result of Avianca's ongoing commitment to applying the best environmental and sustainability practices in its activities. It is also a sign of the tireless work of its teams in implementing actions that not only comply with current environmental regulations, but also promote innovation and efficiency in its operational and administrative processes.

“At Avianca we are committed to the environment and to formulating actions today in favor of the ecosystems where we operate. Through our business model and the constant work of our areas, we are increasingly more conscious when carrying out our operational and administrative processes, controlling our environmental impact, improving our internal standards and seeking more and better ways to do what we know how to do as an airline, in a more environmentally responsible way,” said Andrés Muñoz, Avianca's environmental management manager.

The airline began its certification process in 2018 and since then, it has focused on maintaining a continuous cycle of staff training, advising process leaders and evaluating all work centers in accordance with the scope of standard 14001.

Annually, the company receives two audits, both internally, by hiring specialized professionals, and externally, with the certifying entity. Likewise, it has developed two environmental courses on the company's academic platforms to facilitate the operational competence of the staff, in addition to the creation of the environmental leaders program who promote these principles within the organization.

Among its most important milestones is the generation of 763,225 kWh of solar energy, corresponding to 30% of the energy consumed by the MRO, used to develop maintenance operations (2023); the recycling of 44% of non-hazardous waste generated in its operation and the delivery of 83% of hazardous waste to authorized companies that are responsible not only for proper final disposal but also for the use of materials mainly in energy generation.
