The CXLIV Ordinary Meeting of the CCT and the Board of Directors of CATA was held
Representatives of the ministries and chambers of tourism of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic met from February 22 to 24 in Petén (Guatemala)
Within the framework of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the CST held by Guatemala, from February 22 to 24, this meeting was held in Petén, bringing together representatives of the public and private tourism sectors of the countries and SICA member bodies.
The objective has been to analyze strategies that guarantee the strengthening of integration and cooperation, innovation, infrastructure and the development of actions to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals, mainly related to decent work and economic growth. The program of the event also included meetings and technical visits, a workshop for the construction of the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategic Plan 2019-2023, among other activities.
The President Pro Tempore of the Central American Council and the Dominican Republic of Tourism (CCT) and General Director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, Jorge Mario Chajón, indicated that: "In line with the priorities defined by the Central American Integration System (SICA) and hand with the Secretariat of Central American Tourism Integration (SITCA), the theme during the meeting revolved around cooperation projects that are managed at the regional level with funds from Taiwan, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Central American Bank for Economic Integration ( CABEI) and special collaborations with the World Tourism Organization, Central American Institute of Public Administration (ICAP) and others of the integration system ".
The official added that the progress in the implementation of quality regulations with the SICCS Seal, SITCA's organizational structure and follow-up to CCT mandates was reviewed, all of which is part of the action plan of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the CCT that Guatemala leads during the first semester of 2019.
During the Board of Directors of the Tourism Promotion Agency of Central America (CATA) it was addressed: the realization in June in Guatemala of the Central America Travel Market (CATM) fair; the digital strategy in the European markets, which includes website, social networks, influencers, application and co-marketing; as well as proposals to strengthen the intraregional promotion strategy, among others.
The CCT is an organ of SICA, made up of the ministers of tourism of the governments of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic. Its main objective is the facilitation and promotion of the development of tourism in the entire Central American region, for which it promotes that this industry is integrated as a strategic sector in each country, in order to contribute to sustainable tourism development in the region. It aims to facilitate and stimulate the development of tourism throughout the region, eliminating obstacles and impediments to the free movement of people in the region and integrating the promotion of tourism, as a state function, to the other functions of the different government agencies and agencies, both at the national and regional level, so that, in the respective cases, greater effectiveness can be achieved in the efforts aimed at tourism development in Central America and the Dominican Republic.
CATA is a tourist promotion agency of Central America created in 2002. It is responsible for proposing, directing, evaluating, executing the policies and strategies of promotion of Central America as a tourist destination or the combination of one or more countries as multi-destination, as well as promoting and disseminate the image of the region, in accordance with the policies defined by its Board of Directors. All the efforts made by this agency are currently focused on the European market.
