Business tourism in Brazil ended 2019 with positive results, according to the Brazilian Association of Corporate Travel Agencies (Abracorp). Institution data indicate that the segment grew 9.5%, compared to the previous year. More than R $ 11.3 billion were collected from the sale of products and services to tourists in the industry, compared to the R $ 10.4 billion recorded in 2018. Highlight for the hotel and airline sectors, which increased 21.9% and 14%, respectively.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the revenue generated by foreign visitors who come to Brazil on business is 33.4% higher than for leisure travel. The Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, reinforces the importance of the corporate segment for the development of the sector. “In a year in which tourism had one of its best performances, the business sector could not register different rates. This shows us that our work is working and strengthens us to continue doing more for this segment and for the others that strengthen Brazil ”, he celebrates.

Abracorp President Gervasio Tanabe celebrates the data and expects 2020 to surpass last year's indexes. "The year begins with the Brazilian economy showing positive data, from which we estimate to grow from 10% to 11%", he predicts. Recently, the country has gained yet another venue for corporate events that can attract more tourists. The new Convention Center in Salvador (BA) is expected to generate R $ 500 million per year in various sectors of the economy.

According to the MTur's International Demand Survey, business tourism was the second main reason for foreigners coming to Brazil in 2018. Of the total number, 13.5% visited the country for this purpose and made daily expenses per capita of US $ 84.33.
