The destination complies with global protocols for the safe and responsible reactivation of tourist activity

Ecuador joined the list of international destinations that have obtained the Travel Safety Stamp granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council, having complied with the hygiene and sanitation protocols that will help to regain the trust of visitors, once the authorities decide to open tourist destinations.
The WTTC, which represents the global private travel and tourism sector, designed the seal with the aim of contributing to the responsible and safe reopening of tourism, once the local authorities determine that the conditions exist for it.
Gloria Guevara Manzo, President and CEO of the WTTC, stated that “Ecuador is a great travel destination in Latin America, internationally recognized for its natural beauties such as the Galapagos Islands, its traditions, its climate and its gastronomy. Additionally, it has stood out as an important pole of attraction for business tourism in the region ”.
“It is time to work together to boost the travel and tourism industry, which represents a major engine of the global economy. The main objective of our seal is to regain the confidence of tourists, protect the health of travelers and tourism service providers ”, he explained.
Precisely, the Minister of Tourism of Ecuador, Rosi Prado de Holguín, highlighted the joint work that the Government has carried out with the tourism industry to obtain this seal and thus promote the reactivation. "Safe Travels shows that in Ecuador we have made technical and responsible decisions to encourage travel, guaranteeing the well-being and health of all."
Likewise, the Minister also highlighted that her country was a pioneer in resuming commercial flights in the region. And now, under the strictest biosafety protocols, passengers arrive from anywhere and can continue their journey, provided they have maintained the sanitary standards required to avoid possible infections. “I make a call to enjoy our four worlds: Andes, Amazon, Coast and Galapagos Islands. In these and other corners, we look after their well-being and minimize the risks of contagion ”.
The protocols of the World Travel and Tourism Council were developed following the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and are supported by the World Tourism Organization (OMT) and more than 200 CEOs of the main business groups in the sector around the world.
The receipt of the Safe Travel Seal is a great responsibility that requires supervision by the authorities, for strict compliance with hygiene and sanitation protocols. The WTTC reserves the decision to remove the seal due to non-compliance with them.
It is important to note that derived from the conversations between the WTTC and the government of Ecuador, this nation withdrew the Mandatory Preventive Isolation (quarantine) to any person who enters the country, as long as they present an RT-PCR test with a negative result and no greater 10 days before the trip. This measure is aligned with the efforts that the WTTC has made for the recovery of the Travel and Tourism sector, which in turn will drive economic reactivation.
The contribution of tourism to the global economy. According to the WTTC Economic Impact Report, during 2019 the travel and tourism sector was responsible for one in 10 jobs (330 million in total), making a contribution of 10.3% to world GDP and generating one in four of all new jobs.
