Hotel occupancy in March has been stable in Colombia
According to the report produced by Cotelco, the country's hotels registered an occupancy of 55.73% in the third month of the year
According to Cotelco, hotels in the country registered a growth of 0.08 percentage points compared to March 2017, when occupancy stood at 55.65%.
"Under this scenario, which involves the performance associated with Holy Week, reaffirms the favorable outlook on the behavior of the tourism sector and particularly the hotel industry, this being a factor that undoubtedly contributes to the dynamism of regional economies. However, the results do not exceed the occupancy expectations for this month, taking into account the tourism potential of the country, it is expected to grow at a faster pace, "said Gustavo Adolfo Toro Velásquez, Cotelco's national executive president.
In this opportunity within the evaluated destinations, the report of hotel indicators reflected a sharp increase in the percentage of occupancy in Cauca, going from 39.90% in March 2017 to 51.22% in the same month of 2018, followed by Tolima and Cartagena , department and city that exhibited a growth of 10.53 and 10.27 percentage points respectively. Likewise, it is important to highlight the leadership of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina in terms of occupation, since in the period in question this indicator reached 87.34%.
In contrast, Cesar decreased 11.70 percentage points in his occupation. Huila (-7.67 pp), Atlántico (-6.06 pp), Nariño (-3.70 pp), Valle del Cauca (-3.18 pp), Barrancabermeja (-3.03 pp), Antioquia (-2.30 pp), were added to this negative performance. Caldas (-1.90 pp), Bogotá (-1.67 pp), Santander (-0.95 pp) and Casanare (-0.78 pp). With these results, the balance of the sample excluding Bogotá, Cartagena and San Andrés reflected a contraction of 0.33 percentage points.
Thus, the situation of the sector, measured by the percentage of occupation, accounts for a stable panorama at a general level. It is necessary to join efforts in order to encourage the tourist activity of the country to achieve results that are in line with the capacity of each region.
